Karen Stead-Dexter PhD
Medicine Woman, Teacher, Environmentalist & Bird Whisperer
For all of my life I have had a deep connection with nature and all things spiritual. Having a life-changing event in my early twenties allowed me to develop my love for the environment, academically pursuing first, a BSc Honours Degree in Environmental Science (1st class), then a MSc in Radiation & Environmental Protection, to finally a PhD in Environmental Geochemistry. All giving me a thorough backing into what 'we' do to this planet and the damage 'we' cause. I have for the best part of 30 years been fascinated with the destructive relationship man-kind has had on our delicate ecosystem. All of this giving me a greater understanding of our wonderful planet.
I always like to see the bigger picture, not only from a human point of view but from a holistic earth point of view. Views and behaviours of ancient civilisations have fascinated me and really been a push for where I am today. From the Inca Shamans, Bon Buddhists, Celtic lore and traditions, to the Native American respect for the Earth; all have helped guide me to understanding who I am today.
I have always had an interest in things spiritual and shamanic, and as the years have progressed have gained a deeper understanding and reasoning of how our connection with our own spirit can help us beyond any physical therapy. I became drawn to Energy Medicine after my adrenal glands started to fail, and the results have been deep and amazing; combination of reiki, seichem, shamanic energy healing, simply got me back on my feet! I have also spent the large part of the last 30 years learning about myself, unravelling the shadows to find out who I really am.
Energy Medicine has helped me heal myself on a lot of levels: spiritual, emotional, physical and mental. The energies I use are very 'Shamanic' in nature and link together my interests in Bon Buddhism, Laika, Celtic and Native American Traditions. Energy healing has opened a new world to me, allowing me to see my life as a sacred journey of the soul, a journey to wholeness; allowing me to see the destructive patterns (in my soul’s path) holding me back and allowing me to change for the good.
I am self-employed, running both a holistic/environmental side and Falconry business. I have a therapy room in Wellington, South Somerset and teach workshops on energy medicine, meditation, shamanic work, drumming, Munay-Ki, etc.
I am a Tera-Mai (TM) Reiki & Seichem Master-Teacher and Practitioner. I am a Member of the Reiki & Seichem Association (RASA). I am also an experienced Environmental Science lecturer. After completing my studies with the Chalice Well Trust, I am now a Flower & Vibrational Essences Advanced Practitioner (Adv Prac BFVEA), and continue to further my Shamanic knowledge, especially with respect to Plant Spirit Medicine. Having access to my own Birds of Prey for the past 18 years has given me the wonderful opportunity to embrace their wisdom and medicine and use this, with their permission, to teach Bird Spirit Medicine. I have full public liability insurance for all therapies.
I recently completed a practitioners course in Shinrin Yoku - Forest Bathing, and I will be offering 1-2-1 and group sessions from February 2020. More information about this deep connection to nature will be posted soon.
As mentioned above, I am a falconer, and have been totally engrossed with these majestic birds full-time for over 18 years; successfully managing a falconry centre for 5 years. I am very passionate about birds of prey and now act as a falconry advisor and mentor for those wishing to start in falconry; plus offer hawk walks, experience days, handling sessions, therapeutic visits and give talks and lectures with my feathered friends in tow. I have full insurance to do all the above. Please follow this link to find out more information : www.kingfisherfalconry.co.uk
Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
